Be Pretty, Not Shitty

I’m a make-up whore. I’ve never been loyal to one brand. I’m constantly on the lookout for better products, the ones that will finally work the magic to make me look like an air brushed, photo shopped version of myself. Shockingly, I’ve yet to find anything that does that. As much make-up as I buy, I generally don’t purchase that many things that have me shitting my pants with excitement.

Now that I’m trying to be more conscious about what I put in my mouth, I’m also trying to do so with what I smear on my face. There’s really no excuse for buying make-up from companies that still test on animals. As much as we’d all love to ignore that our beloved mascara is poked into bunny eyes, it’s a fact and it’s not cool.

I don’t like to be preachy. I just don’t understand how empathetic, animal loving women aren’t bothered by the things being done to rabbits, rats and dogs (yes, dogs) in order for us to look pretty.

Granted, up until a few months ago, I didn’t think about it either. I didn’t want to think about it. It was so much easier to buy whatever I wanted. Now I feel like a big ol’ asshole for that.

Glitter!!!

The other day I went to Sephora armed with the knowledge that Urban Decay and Smashbox are cruelty free. That made my shopping experience a whole lot less overwhelming. I know there are a ton of all natural, vegan, cruelty free lines out there but since Sephora has been my addiction forever, I started there. I don’t like buying make-up online unless I know for sure that I’ll love it.

Leaping Bunny provides a huge list of cruelty free companies. PETA always has good info as well but I’m more iffy on them in general.

MAC and Avon used to be a-okay but recently resumed animal testing in China, where the government requires it.

Along with recipes and my “oh fuck, I failed” stories, I’ll be posting some reviews of cruelty free make-up. I’ve already found some amazing stuff!

Got any cruelty free products that you ADORE that I should try out?

*Update* Shitballs, Smashbox is no loner cruelty free. ASSHOLES!!!!!!

I’m on the same page. I’m pretty sure Smashbox fell of the wagon along with Avon and MAC 😦

Josie Maran (sephora) is pretty good(i use her illuminizing powder for makeup; among other products). I also use burts bees 100% natural tinted lipbalms(drugstores)(theres a variety of colors). And if you are willing you could also make your own makeup i make my mascara/eyeliner from wax, oils((vit. E stick from the vitamin shoppe) and activated charcoal pills(the vitamin shoppe)(black powder inside capsules) works great! Lipstick is also possible to make though you can find out how online and bronzer and blush there is also books that teach you.
